Extension abstract submission deadline

The Youth Sport 2010 scentific committee has decided to extend the abstract submission deadline for the 5th International Congress Youth Sport 2010 to be held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 2-4 December 2010 until 10th of September 2010.

New Abstract submission deadline is 10th of September 2010

  • September 30th 2010: Notification of abstract acceptance
  • October 5th 2010: Presenter registration deadline

Ljubljana, 2-4 December 2010

The Congress welcomes researchers from different areas of sport, physical education, children and youth health, physical education and classroom teachers, paediatricians, health workers, graduate and undergraduate students, and other experts who work in the field of children and youth sports and physical education.

The main theme of the 5th Congress Youth Sport 2010 is the care for healthy development of children and youth. The purpose of the congress is the exchange of knowledge and experience of various professionals and experts who work in the field of youth sport and physical activity: from physical education teachers, paediatricians, trainers, sports medicine physicians, classroom and kindergarten teachers, public health workers, social workers etc.  The congress will focus on some possible solutions of the problems which can be resolved only by cross disciplinary cooperation, especially the problems of physical inactivity and obesity, promotion of healthy lifestyle, education of children with disabilities,  excusing from PE classes, finding the appropriate sporting exercise, etc. 

The main theme will cover five half-day sessions. Each session will be composed of a plenary session with presentations by invited speakers, followed by parallel sessions with free communications – oral or poster. 

All sessions of congress will be held in English.  Contributions should focus on one of the following sub-themes, either from a scientific, practical or policy-related viewpoint.

Sub themes and topics:

  • Youth lifestyles and sport: health promotion through sports and PE, leisure sports, fitness (and fatness) of children and youth, the role of media, sports facilities, playgrounds
  • Trends in PE teaching: teacher training, dealing with motivation and behavioural problems in PE, PE and sport for children with disabilities, classroom management, curriculum development, teaching methods, PE in the educational systems, the pedagogies in PE, planning, evaluation and assessment of PE, involvement of parents in PE and youth sports
  • Coaching, training and testing of young sportspeople: working with sports talented children, sports, ethics and fair play, psychological aspects of youth sports
  • Medical aspects of youth sport: injuries in PE and youth sports, nutrition of young sportspeople, obesity, diabetes and sports, asthma and sport, excuses from PE, cooperation between PE teachers and physicians
  • Anomalisms in youth sports: sports bets, frauds, PE, youth sports and social exclusion, adaptations of rules, doping, overtraining 
  • Statistics and analyses in PE and youth sports
  • Other topics
